Comedian Mary Dimino chronicles her colorful Queens childhood and her mission to lose 115 pounds in "Scared Skinny - A 1 (hundred pound lighter) Woman Show," to become performed Lida Daidaihua Original Friday in the Schorr Family Firehouse Stage in Johnson City.
In the show, Dimino paints a picture of the items it was prefer to develop "flabby, funny and afraid" in her Italian-American family, and she recalls frank and funny tales of "fat kids playing with Ouija boards" and being bigger than Santa in a holiday picture.
Dimino, winner from the 2010 MAC Award for Outstanding Female Comedian, has appeared on Comedy Central, VH-1, HBO's "Chris Rock Show," NBC's "Today Show," sketches on "Late Show with David Letterman," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," interstitial stand-up for the American Movie Classics network, as well as in a large number of national commercials. Her stand-up was featured on Comedy Central's SAST and she may be the series studio warm-up act for "The Graham Norton Effect," also on Comedy Central.
She performs in clubs nationwide and was featured within the New York Underground Comedy Festival, Toyota Comedy Festival, Staten Island Comedy Festival, The Italian Chicks Comedy Tour and girls of Laughter. Dimino is winner from the 2008 Gracie Allen Award, presented by American Women in Radio and Television. The Gracie honors exemplary contributions of people who've encouraged the realistic and faceted portrayals of women in entertainment, commercials and featured programming.
Dimino has played Connie the Maid of Honor onstage in "Tony and Tina's Wedding" and Polly on TV's "New York Undercover," and she or he has appeared Fruta Planta Reduce Weight in various other television and movie roles. Dimino is really a contributing writer for various shows, such as the award-winning PBS documentary "Fat," by which she also had a starring role.
